During the cold and flu season respiratory infections are common due to most of us staying indoors and in close proximity to each other. These are the conditions that increase the spread of germs and viruses through contact. Contact maybe in the form of coughing, sneezing, touching a contaminated surface or being in a sick person’s personal space. Hugging, kissing, and in some cases direct skin contact can cause germs and viruses to spread. Regular hand washing will help stop germs from making their way into your home.

It's almost impossible to stop kids from putting their hands in their mouths.   Toys and other items should only be used by one child at a time if possible to cut down on the spread of germs and viruses.  After, these items should be cleaned thoroughly a with disinfectant, sanitized and rinsed completely.   The use of sanitizers and disinfectants are great at killing many of these germs and viruses. Many of these chemicals are very harmful to kids if swallowed.  Keep all cleaning chemicals out of the reach of children. Make sure to santize the following areas:

  1. Light switches and surfaces around it
  2. Faucet handles
  3. Phones
  4. Door knobs and the door surface, also door frame
  5. Hand rails
  6. Vertical and horizontal surfaces
  7. All remote controls
  8. Toilet bowl, seat and cover
  9. One of the most important places people forget to clean is - the toilet bowl handle
