At You’ve Got Maids® of Northern Virginia, we love a clean home. So it’s only natural we’d want to keep the home we all share clean, too: our planet.
We are NoVA’s eco-friendly house cleaning company. Our cleaners use HEPA-filter vacuums, reusable wipes, and non-toxic eco-friendly cleaning products – part of why You’ve Got Maids® is a certified green business by Green America.
We clean green… and we want to empower our customers to enjoy a cleaner, greener spring too!
Do your part to keep the world clean – and your home too! This spring cleaning time, take advantage of these environmentally friendly hints and tricks:
Forget those harsh blue chemicals. Here’s an easy-to-make toxin-free solution that’s both effective and safe for your kids and pets!
Just mix two tablespoons of distilled vinegar with two cups of distilled or tap water, add a few drops of essential oils (that part’s optional), pour into a spray bottle, point, and shoot!
Take it from You’ve Got Maids’® own Queen of Green. Whenever coffee, Kool-Aid or red wine puts a stain in your couch or carpet, non-toxic club soda is your secret weapon!
Club soda works so well for two reasons:
Don’t be timid about really soaking the stain with the soda. Make sure it gets down deep into the fibers to pull out the entire stain.
Don’t spray another aerosol can of de-greaser into the air! Copper or cast iron, de-grease your pots and pans with just some kosher salt and a spritz of lemon juice.
Pour in enough salt to coat the bottom of the cookware, swirl in the liquid citrus, and scrub the grease away… the green way! Sometimes the most eco friendly kitchen products are already in your pantry.
That’s not a typo. Mayo will actually help remove many water marks from wooden furniture.
Smear it on the water ring and leave it overnight. If that doesn’t do the trick, mix some cigarette ashes into the mayo (again, not a typo) and apply that for a night – that should take care of it.
You’ll need a toothbrush for those tricky stains wedged between the tiles of the bathroom shower. Dilute some vinegar with an equal amount of water, and spray or pour it on. Then make a paste of baking soda and water, and brush it in.
Alternate the vinegar and the baking soda until the tile grout is clean, then rinse the area. For really stubborn stains, use a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide disinfectant.
So what does “go green” mean for spring cleaning? It means America’s Finest Maid Service™ uses only eco friendly products, equipment, and techniques that are healthy and sustainable for your family and our environment.
And it’s by meeting or exceeding high standards for social and environmental impact that You’ve Got Maids is recognized as a Green America® certified business.
We clean green in three main ways:
You’ve Got Maids® cleans your home with only natural eco-friendly cleaning products that have:
Instead of single-use disposable items, You’ve Got Maids® uses reusable bottles, and micro-fiber cleaning cloths. Not only do these sustainable and eco-friendly household products help the environment, they’re also better than paper towels for removing dust and dirt.
In addition to that, we use efficient washing machines with eco friendly laundry detergent to reduce contamination, and high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuum cleaners to filter out and capture micron-sized particles. A HEPA filter is rated to trap 99.97% of all airborne particles bigger than 0.3 microns.
We purchase cleaning supplies in bulk to reduce plastic waste, and communicate electronically as much as possible to reduce paper waste.
Plus, since all our professional house cleaners are graduates of Maid University, they’ve been trained to use the correct amount of cleaning solution, to reduce water waste.
With springtime on the horizon, the spring cleaning services included in our signature 52-Point Spring Clean™ package is about to become very popular!
