Three Tips when Hiring a Maid Service

  Slaten Miller  |    22 July 2015  |    Choosing a maid service,  |    San Antonio

Not all home cleaning companies in San Antonio are created equal. Inviting someone into your home is always an important decision and asking the right questions can help protect your home and family.

Ask to See Proof of Insurance

All businesses you invite into your home should at least carry general liability, commercial auto, workers compensation, and a third-party fidelity bond (first-party fidelity bonds are much cheaper but protect the employer instead of you). Cleaning personnel are no different. If a cleaning provider chooses to not insure themselves and/or their employees while in your home, they have shifted the responsibility of their maids to you. Any reputable maid service can produce up-to-date proof of insurance prior to entering your home.

Ask to See Proof of Licensing

This will usually consist of incorporation documents, assumed name certificates, Certificate of Occupancy, etc. If these documents cannot be produced, there's a chance you're interviewing a household employee rather than an independent contractor (this is especially true if it is a one or two maid operation). If you hire a household employee, the IRS treats your household like any other employer (tax payments, EIN, W-2's, I-9's, etc.) For more information on this subject, click here.

Ask how your Maids will be Vetted

Most often, maids are in your home while you are not. Responsible maid services will require criminal background checks and drug screening of all employees prior to entering a customers home as well as have a procedure in place to have ongoing updates to employee records.

At You've Got MAIDS of San Antonio, we can proudly prove to be licensed, bonded, and insured. Our maids must pass a criminal background check and drug screen and begin coursework at our proprietary Maid University prior to entering your home. We happily serve from the Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Olmos Park area up to Stone Oak and Bulverde, from Shavano Park to Live Oak, and everywhere in between. We invite you to give the finest maid service in San Antonio an opportunity to earn your business!
