Franchise Ownership: Global Entrepreneurs in Pursuit of the American Dream on the Rise

  Meli Lussier  |    May 22, 2017 4:34:25 PM  |    Franchise Opportunities

New Americans are twice as likely to start their own business as native-born Americans. At You've Got MAIDS, this certainly rings true for our family of franchise owners. Many of our franchise partners recognized the opportunity to live the American dream and took control of their destiny by owning their own business in the $20 billion plus home cleaning industry. You've Got MAIDS' owners span the globe and represent many different countries.  We have owners from Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Turkey, New Zealand and multiple partners from England.

According to Entrepreneur, "the American Dream of small-business ownership is alive and well, and the fastest-growing group of people making that dream a reality are immigrants. Though they make up only 13.5 percent of the U.S.. population, immigrant entrepreneurs now account for 27.5 percent of all new entrepreneurs in America. That’s up from 13.3 percent just a decade ago. Not only that, but immigrants are much more likely to become entrepreneurs than native-born Americans, with 0.53 percent rate of entrepreneurship for immigrants against only a 0.29 percent rate for natives."

Why do these immigrants choose the franchise model when establishing their livelihood in America? Here are some reasons why it is so popular among this demographic:

1. Franchising makes complicated circumstances simpler.  If you work an established franchise system, the system works.

2. Franchising delivers credibility and understanding.  Get a head start with a well-established business process and have a company brand that customers trust.

3. Franchising can create permanence for a family.  It not only offers the family stability, it gives them a path to create a legacy.
