The ceiling Fan! Would you believe the first ceiling fan was invented in the 1800s. Who knew! Most of us love them, I know, I do! On a hot summer day they circulating a cool breeze throughout the room and forcing the warm air down to warm us up in the winter. Ceiling fans should be cleaned at a minimum weekly to avoid dirt and dust build up. Dirty blades with built-up can cause your ceiling fan to wobble and start weird noises. For a weekly cleaning of your ceiling fan use a light feathered ceiling fan duster or a microfiber ceiling fan duster, either one works great. Make sure it has an extendable pole so you don’t have to climb a ladder.
Now, if you've never cleaned your ceiling fan before or in a couple of months. I’m sure that you will need to perform a deep cleaning. For this type of cleaning you will need a tall ladder, a cleaning cloth, and a small container of soap and water mix or an all-purpose cleaner.
To perform a deep cleaning on your fan:
Note: This task should be performed with two people to insure safety.
- Turning off the ceiling fan
- Position a tall step ladder beneath the fan, not directly underneath it.
- Have the other person hold the ladder
- Carefully climb the ladder
- Rotate fan blades as needed to clean individually
- Use a vacuum with a hose and brush attachment to remove all the loose dirt and dust
- Wipe around motor housing and on top
