Don’t Clean Your Flat Screen TV

Don’t clean your Flat Screen TV without reading this first.  Flat Screen TV’s aren’t the same as the cathode ray tubes (CRT) that we all grew up with.  CRT glass could handle Windex, dog slobber, and the occasional projectile during football season.

Your new LCD or Plasma screens aren’t made up of the same resilient glass as your old CRT.  The new glass is much softer, and can be scratched easily.  As a company, You’ve Got MAIDS trains all of our house cleaners during Maid University, to never clean Flat Screen TV’s. Sure we dust off the tops and sides, but we instruct our maids to not touch the screens.  We don’t want to ruin anyones Super Bowl Party, but we are very happy to clean up after it.

Here’s a few Do’s and Don’ts:

Don’t

Don’t use Windex or any amonia based glass cleaner on your Flat Panel TV Screen as that can strip away the anti-reflective coating on the glass.

Don’t use paper towels or tissue paper to clean your Flat Panel TV Screen as can scratch the soft glass.

Don’t spray fluid onto the Flat Panel TV Screen.

Don’t touch the Flat Panel TV Screen with your hand (for those of us with young children, good luck on this one).

Do

Do use a dry microfiber cleaning cloth to gently remove smudges and fingerprints.

If the Flat Panel TV Screen is very dirty consider lightly spraying your microfiber cloth with water.  The microfiber cloth should be almost dry, before gently cleaning the screen.

Green Cleaning Leather Furniture

Leather furniture adds a touch of sophistication to any room, but how should you clean it without using toxic cleaning solutions?

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Stained Leather Couches and Chairs

#1 – Vacuum the furniture with a HEPA filtered vacuum removing all dust and dirt.  Use attachments to get into tight spots.

#2 – Mix a small amount of liquid castile soap (found at Whole Foods) with water in a spray bottle.  Depending on the size of your bottle, ½ teaspoon should work, but read the manufactures label to be certain.  Remember, less is more.  Now spray the solution on a microfiber cleaning cloth and rub the stain gently.  Allow it to air dry.  Once the spot is cleaned up, and the furniture is dry it is time to condition the leather.

#3 – There are two products used to condition leather.  Mink Oil and Coconut Oil.  Mink Oil is considered superior to Coconut Oil and is made from the fatty layer minks have just under their skins…so if this bothers you use Coconut Oil.  Then while you are rubbing the Coconut Oil into your prized leather couch, question why you have a leather couch in the first place.  Rub the Mink or Coconut oil into the leather with a flannel polishing cloth.  Don’t use too much oil…again less is more!  Regular cleaning and conditioning with preserve and soften your leather furnishings.

Dust Mites
